Dash cam installation
Installed discreetly.
Ready when you need it.
Professional front, rear and dual-channel dash cam installation across South Wales, with tidy cable routing, hardwiring, parking mode and app setup.

Evidence when
you need it most.
A dash cam can provide an independent record of what happened on the road. That can be useful after a collision, when challenging false allegations, documenting dangerous driving, or simply keeping a record of an incident you witnessed.
Some insurers may offer incentives or discounts for dash cam users, but this is not universal and depends entirely on the insurer and policy. Always check directly with your insurer rather than assuming a camera will reduce the premium.
Understand the features
What the specification
actually means.
GPS recording
GPS-enabled cameras can record location and, on many models, speed alongside the footage. That can add useful context to an incident and make it easier to establish exactly where footage was recorded.
G-sensor
A G-sensor detects sudden movement or impact. On compatible cameras it can automatically protect the relevant video clip so normal loop recording is less likely to overwrite it.
Parking mode
Compatible cameras can monitor the vehicle while it is parked. The exact behaviour varies by camera, and parking mode normally requires the correct hardwire solution and suitable vehicle power management.
Loop recording
Dash cams normally record in short files and overwrite the oldest unprotected footage when the memory card becomes full. That is why card health and regular checks matter.
Wi-Fi / app access
Many newer cameras allow footage to be viewed or downloaded on a phone. App quality varies between manufacturers, so it is worth choosing the camera as a complete system rather than on headline resolution alone.
Resolution
Higher resolution can help with detail, but sensor quality, exposure, frame rate, lens quality and night performance all matter too. A higher number on the box is not the only thing to compare.
Front or front + rear?
More coverage means
more context.
If your vehicle is hit from behind, something happens while another vehicle is following you, or the important part of an incident is behind the car, a front-only camera may not capture it. A front-and-rear system gives a much fuller picture of what happened around the vehicle.
| Feature | Front only | Front + rear |
|---|---|---|
| Forward road coverage | Yes | Yes |
| Rear collision context | Limited / none | Yes |
| Following vehicle footage | No | Yes |
| Installation time | Usually shorter | Usually longer |
| Best for | Basic forward evidence | Broader incident coverage |
Hardwiring explained
A clean installation needs
the right equipment.
Where Road Guard Automotive supplies the camera package, the correct hardwire equipment can be matched to the installation as part of the booking.
If you already own the camera and want it hardwired, you need the correct compatible hardwire kit for that exact model, including appropriate piggy-back fuse holders where required. The booking form asks for the make, model, product photo, purchase link and a photo of the hardwire kit so this can be checked before travel.
Turning up to a vehicle without the correct camera power kit can mean the installation cannot be completed. Collecting the exact make, model and kit information in advance reduces wasted appointments and makes the job far more likely to be completed in one visit.

The camera should stand out.
The wiring shouldn’t.
Road Guard Automotive installs dash cams with careful attention to camera placement, cable routing and how the finished system sits within the vehicle. The aim is a neat installation that feels integrated rather than added on.
Behind the install
Clean work is about
what you don’t see.
Concealed wiring and considered placement make the finished install look right from every angle.
Dash cam questions
Choose the right system.
Not just the biggest specification.
Do I need GPS?
No, but it can add useful location and speed context to recordings. Whether it matters to you depends on how you intend to use the footage.
Is 4K always better?
Not automatically. Resolution matters, but so do sensor quality, lens performance, exposure, night performance and how well the camera processes the image.
What is the benefit of a rear camera?
It records events behind the vehicle, providing additional evidence and context that a front-only camera simply cannot capture.
Can Road Guard Automotive fit a camera I bought elsewhere?
Yes, subject to the equipment being suitable. The booking form asks for exact product details and photos, particularly when hardwiring is requested.
Does a dash cam reduce my insurance?
Some insurers may offer discounts or incentives, but many do not. Check with your own insurer before relying on a dash cam to reduce the cost of your policy.
